Socket 7 became a commonly used socket for many kind of processor, to name a few: Intel, AMD, Cyrix. Socket 5 then further involved into socket 7, counting only one extra pin this new socket allowed dual rail voltage and thus more power hungry processors. It supported Pentium cpu's up to 120MHz, in contrary to the pre-socket 4 systems we are already speaking of a computer system where there is a general front side bus and a multiplier which allows the cpu to run at greater speed then all the other components in the system. Socket 5 was the second generation socket designed for Intel Pentium processors. Before we dive any deeper inside the chipsets pros and cons, let's have a little history talk: In this thread we will be discussing super socket 7 boards only, a socket which supported Pentium and AMD processors at the same time, a socket flooded with different kind of chipsets too. The thing is that choosing the best board around ain't always that simple, so I think we should join forces and create one big informational thread which would make it easier to pick your board of chose. I fried a few when I started.Overclocking older hardware seem to work pretty well in terms of scoring hwbot hardware points. Do have fun and do not be upset if this unit fails.

If this is the case I will send thestart procedures in my next comment and or answer. If this is a newer type than I think you will have a set of wires out of the case which have to be connected to the MB. I just would like to see if it will boot before you get into it to far. ATX is one double and an AT is two single.ĭo not worry about the cdrom being in. Leave it plugged in and tell me what type of connection it is. I also need to know your power supply type. If the ram is present, leave it in the board for now. If you can, pull the cpu and send the numbers in comment and I or anyone here can tell you it's speed and maker. Do not give up as either will work for hd. This designation should be on the motherboard. Primary ide is to Hard drive and secondary is for cd rom. You have only 2 ide slots on the MB and 1 floppy connecter. This will give you the basic info and a few clues as to what you are into.

If not go to your local pc repair shop and ask if they have a spare of any kind. Hopefully answer 1 got you to a MB manual.

Without a motherboard manual for that motherboard you are going to have a tough time of it. When removing or istalling anything keep in touch with the metal of the case.Ĭabling ide is allways red line on cable is pin 1 and you may need a magnifying glass to see the #1 on the motherboard. This can be done by touching the case at a metal point anywhere. Help me out if ya can, point me in some direction.įirst some basics Allways use a static wire untill you get used to keeping yourself static free. I plan to go into the profession involving system administration so this is about the best way for a person to learn I suppose. BTW I'm currently in my final year of high school so take it easy on me.

My problem here is I need to figure out wheresome of the wires go for this motherboard so that I can get on my way. So then I went to some motherboard price comparision sites to see if they still sold them and I couldn't find it. I searched the net for their website and I never got the site to work. I had trouble finding the maker of the mother board but it wasn't till I took everything off the board and looked on the back its made by "Elpina".

I know very little about the computer because the person that I got it from knows nothing about computers except how to use them for the net. The one that I'm concerned with is the one that needs the "make over".
